简介：
苔丝（娜塔莎·金斯基NastassjaKinski饰）出生于英国乡村的一个小农家中，一天她的爸爸听闻自己是历史悠久皇室德伯希尔的后人。这一传言，让苔丝的一生发生了巨变。由于有一个姓德伯希尔的富有别人就住在很近，爸爸妈妈让苔丝前往攀亲。苔丝的容貌让德伯希尔家的公子阿克雷特（利·劳森LeighLawson饰）心存妄念，他抢走了苔丝的贞节，让苔丝怀起了小孩，殊不知小孩却在出世后没多久就夭亡了。在德伯希尔家的这一段凄惨历经，让苔丝失去那时候社会发展最注重的贞节，当她在牛乳厂遇到安吉尔（约翰·弗斯PeterFirth饰），认为安吉尔是她的终身爱人时，却在结婚一夜由于告之安吉尔自身的往日而遭受抛下。对感情对日常生活早已失落的苔丝，这时又遇到了家中的不幸。应对阿克雷特的再度追求完美，苔丝不顾一切。殊不知，苔丝的运势依然急泻直下……
