上世纪三四十年代，男主人公阿南以编花竹帽为生，一次赶集路过鸳鸯桥，遇到了采茶归来的云妹，一见钟情。少爷同家丁与云妹相遇，上前调戏，阿南看见，上前帮云妹解围，与少爷大打出手，因集市上众人痛恨少爷，一行人一同帮助阿南教训少爷，少爷与阿南结怨。少爷想尽办法想得到云妹，但云妹却没有被金钱打动，对歌会上，云妹阿南对歌互诉真情。少爷处处使坏，想拆散云妹和阿南，但始终未能如愿，趁阿南去神山采竹之际，痛下杀手，命家丁二人在深山将阿南开枪射杀。少爷命家丁将云妹抢回，却被阿英看到，阿英找来众乡亲将云妹救出。云妹不相信阿南已死的消息，来到约定的地点苦等。在苦等了一天一夜后，终于等回被老猎人救了的阿南。
